Intent
Our intent is to inspire in children, a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We aim to teach children to gain an age appropriate understanding of places and environments.
Implementation
Our Geography curriculum aims to inspire children to think about their own place in the world and to develop a sense of responsibility towards the environment and an understanding of the human impact on the natural world. We begin with understanding our local environment and the beautiful coastal village in which we live.
In early years we foster a care for the world around us, learn positional language and start to explore scale. Basic mapping skills are introduced and these are extended incrementally through the school.
Field work is an important part of our curriculum and visits are organised to explore our local and the excellent range of sites in Cornwall, In Geography the children learn to:
- Gain curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.
- Develop knowledge about diverse places, people, resources, and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
- Develop the Geographical skills required to collect, analyse, and communicate with a range of data.
- Interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs.
- Communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length.
