Class 1

Welcome to Class 1

We are the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children at St Mawes Primary School.

Mrs Crinks is our teacher, Mrs Woodcock and Ms Foster are also in Class 1 to help and support our learning. We have a lovely big classroom which has a role play area that links in with our topic, we have a writing area with lots of different ways to record our ideas and also a reading tent filled with lots of comfortable cushions. We have lots of construction toys and a creative area where we can be messy!

Outside we have a climbing frame with a slide, a big sand pit and a water tray full of boats, bottles and other strange objects the teachers think might be fun! We have bikes and scooters to whizz around the track and we can do this even when it rains because we have outdoor weather gear.

Reception has activities based on the EYFS curriculum and its three prime characterisitics of learning are :

Playing and exploring - engagement,

Active learning - motivation

Creating and critical thinking - thinking

We also have Early Learning Goals in Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy, Maths and Expressive Arts and Design.

Years 1 and 2 work from the National Curriculum using topic to extend their learning across all subjects.

Class 1 quite often work together across the year groups to support each other in both learning and in social skills.
